I got three more cards done, I'm not happy with the High Priestess and will be redoing it at some point. I think I'm trying to translate it too literally, but the trees as the black pillar and the white pillar just seemed like such a good idea. Hrm.
Descriptions for the cards come from Wyrdology.
Anyway, without further ado:

The Magician (Magus) is a card of power. Power over the elements, power over others - or the ultimate power, power over oneself.
This is card One - and "1" is also "I".
The Magician, also known as Magus, represents those aspects of the personality traditionally considered "masculine". He is in control. He knows how things work, he can analyze them in detail. He takes action and makes things happen.
This is a forceful, dynamic Tarot card, yet one that operates through the power of Will rather than brute force. If knowledge is power then the Magician represents the application of knowledge. The Magician creates his desired reality.
When this card appears in a Tarot spread it indicates the attainment of goals through the application of knowledge and Will. If badly aspected in a spread, this card can represent abuse of power. It can indicate manipulation of others, trickery and deception.
The Magician can be both sage and conjurer.

The High Priestess is a card of intuition, instinct and hidden knowledge. She encompasses the word "esoteric".
The High Priestess does not seek to dissect. Instead she relies on synthesis, on the bringing together of opposites. She is duality in a singularity.
An emotional singularity which can suck you in and from which you may never escape.
She knows all your secrets, you can hide nothing from her. Yet you will never know the secrets she herself protects.
If well aspected in a Tarot spread, this card can indicate the use of intuition to solve problems; trust to your instincts. If badly aspected, it can mean suppression and ignoring of such instincts - following your head at the expense of your heart.
The High Priestess understands the Mona Lisa's smile.

The Star represents peace, harmony and tranquility. Possibly it is the calm following the storm that destroyed the Tower.
In this card, the storm has passed and the air smells fresh. It is time for renewal, feelings of hope abound. It is time to stretch ourselves, to look forward to new horizons.
Times change, as do we. A new day brings new hope.
When the Star appears in a Tarot spread it represents new possibilities, new hope, new opportunities. If well aspected then those opportunities will be recognized and grasped.
If badly aspected it can indicate a failure to recognize those opportunities, or lack of courage to take advantage of them.
The future starts now. |

Ooh, these are turning out neat! I dont know how familiar with the tarot you are, but if you want more resources to draw from you can look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rider-Waite_tarot_deckThe Rider-Waite deck is considered public domain, so they show every single card and you can borrow images or symbology to your heart's content. This icon is from the Cat People tarot, its from "The Lovers" card.
Basically I know enough about tarot to be dangerous with it. I used to know more but have forgotten a lot in the years that I have done nothing with it. The Cat People was my very first deck and still one of my favorites. I'm rather sad because it seems that somewhere during one of our last three moves I lost my deck of it.
This is kind of a different tangent - but what happened to stores selling skads of tarot decks? I remember when book stores used to have whole sections with oodles of decks. Now I'm lucky if I can find a handful of different decks. Hmmm...
I think my favorite deck after the Cat People one would be the Halloween one by Kipling West. I dunno, I was wondering the same thing too! There's an occult store in Houston that sells tons of them, other than that most bookstores quit. Maybe the religious right? I remember that at one point the section where they were was called 'occult' but now it's called 'new age'. Krypt works at a bookstore and there's a lot of theft of small items, that might be it too. Now the closest place to me is this: http://www.magickcauldron.com/And it's still 90 minutes away. Have you seen this site? It's nifty. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/
These are turning out so beautifully!
The High Priestess is my favorite tarot card, and I like the one you made for it. :D
Thank you! Several people have said that they like the Priestess card so I'm wondering if I'm just being too critical. Hmmmm.... I'd still like to redo it at some point and try to make it better.
AHA! I found you! *lurks at you*
These are really neat. Interesting idea, too. I've had my Tarot cards read once and thought it was kind of spooky how close to the mark they hit. Are you making actual paper cards of them, for use, or just designing them?
And how ya been, btw?

I'm hoping to print them out when I'm done but I'm not sure if I can find paper that is heavy enough.
I've been sick with the plague recently, which isn't nearly as much fun as it sounds. *laughs* Although it seems like I disappear for a bit and then everything hits the fan!
Everybody I know has the plague! Whatever the heck is going around, whether it's actual flu or bronchitis or what, it's persistant. Hope you feel better soon. I'm 2 1/2 weeks and counting with the thing.
Maybe you could print it out on a lighter paper, something filmy or tissue-like (origami paper?) and then paste *that* onto a heavy postcard type of paper. Like a transparency. I'm sure there's something available; too many people make their own holiday cards and things, there's got to be some kind of heavier paper out there that will work.
I keep wanting to try my hand at photoshop...but considering I still haven't hooked up my new computer (an embarrassingly long time after I bought it), I'm not holding my breath.
